Fall has taken over the spot as the most popular season for weddings, but my favorite – by far – is summer! After a cold and dark winter, summer’s arrival is such a welcome sight. It feels…fresh and brimming with possibilities. Warm breezes and air that’s sweet with the blossoms of the season…I mean, does it get any better?
If you’re considering setting your date in the summer, this wedding mood board just might sell you on it.
Start With: A Blossom-Adorned Invitation
Nothing says “summer” like flowers, which is why we’ve chosen a floral-themed wedding invitation to set to tone for this summer wedding inspiration.
Fresh greenery and cream garden roses frame your custom wording on this affordable invite. The watercolor illustration is beautiful, and the neutral palette keeps thing classic without being a bore.
A Green, White and Cream Color Palette
This just might be our favorite color palette of the moment! All shades of green – from hunter to emerald to olive – are hugely popular. We kept the look crisp by adding bright white, then added a dash of soft romance with cream.
My favorite ways to infuse green, white and cream into your wedding day are:
- Bridesmaid Dresses: go for a monochromatic look, or dress all your ladies in a pretty shade of dark green.
- Flowers: Greenery and flowers make this entire look!
- Cake: Choose a classic white-tiered cake, and adorn it with cream roses and greenery.
- The Great Outdoors: If you can, say your vows outside. A garden or park setting, with lots of green space and florals, will create the perfect backdrop for your day.
Flowers, Everywhere
If this mood board had a scent, it would radiate freshly cut greenery and roses. To pull off a wedding that looks like it was plucked from a summer garden, spread flowers wide and far:
- Bouquets: When it comes to your bridal bouquets, go big! Ask your florist to include a mix of white to cream garden roses, paired with lots of textured greenery.
- Hair: If you’re opting for an up-do, tuck a wide-open cream garden rose into your hair.
- Boutonnieres: The guys need flowers too. Instead of pinning a huge rose onto their suit jackets, ask for simple greenery-only boutonnieres.
- Ceremony: Two-words: Ceremony backdrop! Creating a flower-clad structure to stand in front of while you say your vows can be a splurge, but trust me, it’s worth it! You’ll swoon over it each time you gaze at your wedding photos.
- Reception: Flowers, flowers, everywhere! Work with your florist to create unique arrangements for your tables. My best advice is to skip matching centerpieces on every table. Instead, create 4-5 looks and mix them up. Not only does this add interest, but will help your budget too. Create just one show-stopping (ahem, expensive) centerpiece to put on just a few tables. Then, create 3-5 additional looks for all the others. One can be as simple as a giant open rose in bowl or simple greens in small vases.
