Maybe your bestie lives across the country and just had a baby. Maybe your grandma is in the hospital. Maybe the trip from Australia is too much for your uncle to make. There are lots of reasons why the most important people in your life might not be able to make it to your wedding but that doesn’t mean they’ll have to experience the event through photos and videos after the fact. With a little technology and some organization, your loved ones can be with you on that special day by live streaming your wedding.
- First, make sure your venue and your absent guest’s location have WiFi connections. Also make sure both of you have the appropriate device, like a smart phone, an iPad or iPhone, and the right applications for the job (Skype, FaceTime, Google+ Hangout, I Do Stream, etc.).
- Next: test, test, test. Then test again. Then test one more time. You won’t regret the time you spend checking and re-checking cords, sound, batteries, cables, extensions and connections to be sure everything is running smoothly before the wedding.
- Make the experience fun for everyone involved. Have a groomsman walk down the aisle holding an iPad connected to your bestie and her baby – it’ll be just like she’s part of the wedding party! Have Mom or Dad hold the iPad so Grandma feels like she’s got a front row seat. Set up the device in different locations throughout the celebration so your aunt and uncle can experience the romance in real time. You can ask the virtual guests to make speeches. You can pass around the iPad at the reception so they can visit with family members. You can even take the device and your guest for a spin on the dance floor!
