Much like bridal gowns and wedding invitations, bridal hairstyles are always evolving. But there’s one ‘do that seems to be in style and on trend no matter the year or the season: braids! Beautiful braids are a stunning hairstyle to consider whether you’re tying the knot in the middle of a whimsical garden or in a glamorous hotel ballroom. Here are a few bridal braids that I adore, and the wedding themes that can go along with them:
Formal
If you’re a traditional bride and would like a hairstyle that matches the formality and classic nature of your big day, you can’t go wrong with a simple braided bun, as shown here. A sleek bun is chic and beautiful, and a braid adds a simple touch of texture and elegance.
For a more modern hairstyle, you can opt for a loose chignon bun complete with a subtle side braid that extends down into the bun (perfect for a fall wedding!).
Boho
Boho weddings are big on rustic charm and usually come with a relaxed ambiance. Ask your hairstylist for a fishtail side braid sprinkled with baby’s breath. If you’re a bride that is having trouble deciding between leaving your locks up or down, do both with a half-up, half-down waterfall braid. Finish off the style with a crown of fresh flowers.
You can also put your hair up and combine both chunky and fine braids, securing them with a bobby pin on the back of your head, like this.
Disney
Elsa from “Frozen” and Rapunzel from “Tangled” both rock beautiful braids in their Disney movies. Channel Elsa’s effortlessly beautiful look with a French braid flowing into a chunky side braid elegantly draping over your shoulder. Add some flowers or a sparkling barrette for a touch of glam.
To emulate Rapunzel’s ‘do, intertwine lots of flowers in your single French braid. Feel free to make it your own by adding ribbon or barrettes. For an autumn wedding, use gold, red and orange flowers to represent the cozy feel of the season.
Country
If you’re a country girl at heart, you’ll want a hairstyle that evokes the same charm and beauty as you do, which is why you can’t go wrong with braids. Leave your hair down, showing off subtle waves, and have your hairstylist add a braided headband to the top of your locks for a rustic way to pull your tresses back.
