We’re pretty sure the people you’re inviting to your wedding know what you look like, but they may not know what your spouse looks like! A photo save the date card gives your wedding guests a small taste of your relationship and a little insight into your personalities. While this definitely isn’t a life or death decision, some thought should be put into selecting the picture that gets used on your photo save the date. Here are a few tips for choosing it:

Start with several photos
Give yourself a fairly large selection of pictures from which you and your future spouse can choose. One of you might love one, while the other doesn’t, so having a lot of pictures to work with can be helpful. If you love a few photos, you can consider using one for your save the date and keep the other picture that you like for your wedding invitations. Another option would be to pick a photo save the date card that allows space for more than one picture. That way, you don’t have to choose!

Think about your personality
If you and your spouse aren’t really the outdoorsy type, you probably don’t want to select the photo of you two on that family camping trip where you were eaten by mosquitos the entire time. Choose a photo where the two of you are really in your element – maybe it’s a picture of you guys at a baseball game, traveling or just hanging out on the couch at home watching a movie and eating popcorn.

Reflect your wedding theme
Are you getting married on a beach? In a garden? Inside a beautiful church? You can give your guests a little sneak peak into your wedding motif using the picture on your save the date. Choose a photo where you and your spouse-to-be are in a location similar to your venue. This will coordinate well with the invitation and let your guests know what to expect when your wedding day arrives.

Schedule an engagement photo shoot
If you and your better half simply can’t decide on (or find) a good picture of the two of you, you can schedule an engagement photo shoot with a professional photographer. This way, you know you’ll be getting some quality pictures out of it; and you can prepare, wearing your favorite outfit and having your hair and makeup just the way you want it. You can also take this opportunity to get some stunning pictures of your new ring!
