There’s one man in a bride’s life who has been there from the very beginning,¬†through the good times and the bad. And no, I’m not talking about the groom. I’m thinking of the father. The day a father’s little girl ties the knot is as big of an event for him as it is for his daughter. While thank you cards do the trick, nothing expresses emotion quite like a song.

“My Girl” by The Temptations
This sweet oldies beat is an adorable song of choice for the father/daughter dance. If you’re not a fan of the slower melodies, this one has a more upbeat rhythm but still focuses on the importance of daddy’s little girl.

“Gracie” by Ben Folds
This song starts with the first time that a father sees his daughter and evokes the special bond that a father and daughter share upon first glance. The whole tune is from the perspective of a new dad and talks about how special his little girl is to him. The lyrics at the end of the song end it on a perfect note, saying how his daughter will always be a part of him. Awww.

“It Won’t Be Like This For Long” by Darius Rucker
When you were just an infant, it’s likely that you kept your daddy up more than a few times crying the night away. This song by Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker details how dads are going to look back on those moments and wish that they didn’t go by so fast, because, as Darius puts it, “it won’t be like this for long.”

“Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion
If you really want your dad to know how much he has done for you over the years, this ballad by powerhouse singer Celine Dion should do the trick. The song goes through all of the things that dads do throughout a daughter’s life that make her into the woman she eventually becomes.

“I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack
This song is the perfect send-off from a father to his daughter. It talks about how even though there might be lots of bumps and bruises throughout life’s journey, you have to learn to take things as they come and not let them get you down. Take every opportunity that’s presented to you, and when you get the chance, dance.

“Over the Rainbow” by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole
Sorry Judy Garland, but I think this Hawaiian artist tops the original version of this tune. It has a certain island vibe to it that makes it just so catchy. I love this song because it focuses on positivity and all of the beautiful things there are to be thankful for in life.
