Hire a wedding planner
Think about it: Wedding planners are experts at putting nuptials together to fit a couple’s vision. There are tons of decisions that go into the big day, like what shape table linens to get and whether you should go with fondant or buttercream on your cake. You and your future spouse will be extremely relieved that you have a wedding planner to turn to to help you weigh the pros and cons of each decision.
Give others specific tasks
Here’s a secret to wedding planning: delegate, delegate, delegate. Unless you’re super woman, it’s likely you aren’t going to be able to tackle every wedding planning detail that arises. After all, your friends and family are there to help. Split up certain tasks and give them to the most trustworthy members of your wedding party or family. But keep in mind, they’re not Martha Stewart, so you have to be OK with them not being totally and completely perfect.
Only hire vendors you have complete trust in
You’re going to feel a lot better about your florist, baker, photographer, etc., if you trust them. But how can you trust vendors if you’ve never worked with them before? Ask other brides/friends who have already tied the knot. They have the inside scoop on how good these vendors are.
When you meet with vendors, you should also ask for two to three references along with their contact information. This is a great way to find out how the vendors performed at past weddings. Ask the references questions like “How did the vendor handle conflict?” and “Can you speak to this vendor’s strong and weak points?”
Look at the big picture
In between choosing wedding invitations and picking out party favors, it can be easy to get lost in all of these decisions. But at the end of the day, remember that you’re going to be married, and that’s the whole point.
Have a glass of champagne
Here’s a simple and delicious way to step away from wedding planning for a bit: Have a drink. Celebrate the little victories, like deciding on a font for your invitations, with a glass of bubbly.
