Grab a friend
Chances are, one of your bridesmaids is looking to tone and tighten for your big day as well, so use each other as motivation to get up and get moving. When you have someone counting on you to hit up the gym with them or go for a run, you’re more likely to follow through with that promise to yourself to get in shape. Plus, exercise is much more enjoyable when you have a buddy going through it with you.
Don’t stick with boring
For some, running on the treadmill with a bit of music is all that’s needed. But if you’re someone who would rather watch paint dry than run on the treadmill, well, you don’t have to! There are plenty of other unique ways to get in shape that offer a bit more excitement. Try going to a Zumba dance class with friends, cycling with adrenaline-pumping tunes or relaxing by doing yoga each morning. If you’re participating in something that you actually enjoy, chances are you’ll be more motivated to get in shape.
Set realistic goals
Your goal may be to get the perfectly toned arms of Eva Longoria within a week, but these things take time. In order to keep a positive attitude, it’s important to set goals that are attainable. Think more along the lines of “this week I will lose two pounds” or “I will stay away from sweets this weekend.” By reaching one goal at a time, you’ll be inspired to stay on track to meet your ultimate long-term objective.
Listen to your body
Exercise should make you feel better afterward by boosting your mood and relieving stress. Take a minute to listen to your body and see how you feel after each workout. Did you sleep more soundly or were you in a better mood? If you’re not feeling positive changes, even if they’re little ones, you may want to switch to an alternate exercise routine.
