Wedding songs for a formal affair

By April,

August 16, 2013
If you’re a bride who is after luxury and class at her wedding, you’re not alone. Many couples are opting for the black-tie theme for their big day. With a tall, tiered cake, elegant glassware, tuxedos and floor-length gowns, it’s only fitting that the music at your reception follow suit. But having a formal affair doesn’t mean that the music has to be boring or stuffy. You can still choose tunes that are classy and unique and encourage all of your guests to get out on the dance floor to celebrate your big day.

“L-O-V-E” by Natalie Cole
This classic number will have you and your guests tapping your toes in no time. Its catchy beat makes it challenging to not head over to the dance floor. It’s certainly an oldie but a goodie.

“Not Even The King” by Alicia Keys
Legendary songbird Alicia Keys has a sultry voice that makes her impossible not to like. This ballad is a sweet first dance song, and its piano backdrop is perfect for a black-tie affair.

“Fever” by Beyonce
What’s a wedding without a little Queen B? Beyonce’s take on this song favorite is goosebump-worthy, not to mention extremely catchy. This diva can do no wrong, and your guests will certainly notice.

“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
This tune is all about the beautiful things in life, which is why it’s so appropriate to play at your reception. Armstrong’s one-of-a-kind voice mixed with the calming instrumental chorus will make it sound like there’s a live band playing at your wedding.

“Fancy” by Drake, T.I., Swizz Beatz
This hip-hop anthem says it all in the name. After you’ve thrown back a few celebratory cocktails, you won’t be able to resist chiming into the chorus that asks, “you fancy, huh?”

“Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake
Justin really knows how to get down, and all of the groomsmen will love tapping their toes to this one wearing none other than their suits and ties! The girls will want to join in on this infectious beat as well.

“At Last” by Etta James
OK, we know this song gets played at virtually every wedding, but there’s a reason for that! There is no other ballad that expresses how completely and totally amazing it is to have found the love of your life. If you want to keep things modern, consider any of the amazing covers of this song from artists like Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion and Jason Mraz.
