Do I have to invite them?
Going through your guest list, you may come across one or two people who invited you to their wedding. But does this automatically mean that they have to be added to your guest list? Well, the short answer is no. Just because you were invited to their nuptials five years ago does not mean you are required to invite them to yours, especially if you’ve lost touch. This is your big day, and it’s not about reconnecting with old friends, it’s about your union with your partner.
DIY will save you money
DIY projects, otherwise known as “do it yourself” has grown more popular over the years because couples think it will save them money. Some choose to make their own wedding invitations, sweet treats, floral arrangements and more. And while it’s true that some DIY projects can save you money, if you’ve never attempted any of them before, now might not be the time to start. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll be wasting time and likely get slightly frustrated trying to learn how to do it right.
You must spend three month’s salary on a ring
Most of you may have heard the age-old rule that you should be spending three months of your total yearly earnings on an engagement ring. Although these rings are expensive, this rule is somewhat outdated. If the average American male in his mid-20s makes about $40,000 per year, that means he would have to shell out about $13,000 on a diamond engagement ring. For some people, that’s a year’s mortgage. According to The Knot, the average price tag of an engagement ring in 2012 cost about $5,000, leaving you with more money to plan the wedding and save for your new life together.
The same goes for your reception venue and dress. It’s assumed that these are two of the most expensive investments of the big day, but they don’t have to be – it’s based on your priorities. Maybe you are interested in spending more money on the band or the food. Make a list of splurge items, then look for ways to save in other categories.
