Unique ideas for a fun reception

By April,

August 26, 2013
Wedding receptions are typically filled with plenty of drinking, eating and dancing. And while those three elements are essential to a fun night of celebrating, there are a few other unique ideas you may want to consider for your reception. Here are a few you and your party guests are sure to love:

Pinata
Pinatas are no longer only for little kids’ birthday parties. In fact, they’ve become quite the hit among weddings. But don’t worry, you don’t have to hang a paper donkey in the middle of your beautiful reception. We’re talking more along the lines of exquisite paper art pieces designed specifically for your day. Couples have had everything from an ombre wedding cake pinata to a bouquet of roses wedding pinata. Instead of filling them with candy, the bride and groom can choose to stuff pinatas full with whatever they would like. Some fill them with lotto tickets, while others stuff in personalized pins, small toys (for the kids) and mini plastic liquor bottles.

Caricature drawings
Your guests will have a blast getting their very own drawing of themselves that they can take home. This could even double as a favor! It’s a very unique and different way to entertain guests as they celebrate your big night.

Lawn games
If you’re getting married outdoors, you have the perfect, natural setting for some fun outdoor lawn games. They’re a great way to keep adults and kids entertained for an affordable price. In the spring and early summer, you can bust out a few games of croquet and bocce ball. Another extremely popular game, no matter what season it is, is corn hole. You can even make your own custom boards to match your wedding theme. Other games include mini golf, sack races, Frisbee golf, tug of war and badminton.

Performances
The most traditional performance at the wedding reception is often a live band belting out your favorite tunes. But aside from music, there are a few other ways to entertain your loved ones. One bride decided to hire a belly dancer at her wedding to show off her Moroccan roots. You could also opt to hire a few professional dancers to really put on an unforgettable performance. If you would rather make your guests laugh, consider sending an invite to your favorite comedian.
