If your caterer presents you with a dish you just must serve, like filet mignon, ask them if they can substitute one ingredient out to lower the price. Maybe they can serve tenderloin medallions instead, which still taste amazing but can bring down the overall cost of your reception food.
If you’re having a formal affair, you may think that only a served meal will suffice. However, buffets can be just as classy. Buffets cut down on the amount of staff needed to serve dishes and you can spend that money elsewhere.
Limit the options
If you want to offer meat, chicken and fish, your wedding bill is going to be much higher than if you only offered one. Instead, choose a dish to serve everyone, and provide vegetarian meals to only those who request them. This way, the one meal you have chosen can be more premium dish.
Go with a food truck
Food trucks are gaining popularity among the wedding industry, and the best part is, they have virtually every food you could ever imagine to help you fit your wedding style. Think outside the box – have a burger truck where guests can design their own burgers, or serve pizza, grilled cheese, tacos, hot dogs, lobsters – anything! Depending on where you live, what the trucks offer may vary.
Serve filling food
If you give your guests things like potatoes, beans, whole grain bread, pasta and proteins, they’re going to be full, rather than need more food – helping you to cut down on your bill.
Offer different meals for kids
You don’t have to serve the children at your wedding filet mignon – think more along the lines of chicken fingers or grilled cheese. If you’re planning on many children attending your wedding, this will help you save some green.
If you go with a brunch or a lunch, you won’t have to spend the money on appetizers and desserts, often for these two meals, guests are satisfied with only one dish.
