Guest welcome bags are a great way to surprise your family and friends – they may contain certain items that speak to your wedding theme, color palette, location, style or whatever you may choose! Leave these at the hotel and let guests enjoy! They’re the perfect way to make them feel welcome in a new town. Many brides include small notes in the bag that outline all of the wedding events as well as the dress code, contact info and times. These notes could also be recommending great places to eat in the area or any local attractions to check out.
Start with a tote
A reusable tote bag is a great way to start. It’s friendly to the environment and it’s something that guests can use again! Although you could also opt for paper bags or boxes, those work just as well. If you do go for those reusable canvas bags, The Knot recommended steering clear of any monograms or names – keep it generic. This way, they can use it over and over again. If you’re having a destination wedding, how about a little palm tree? Or the design could speak to your theme, whether it’s rustic, nautical or Disney.
What goes in my bag?
Anything you want really! It can be as unique as you would like. But I think what many guests would appreciate after a long day of travel is food! Heck, I would appreciate that at any time of day. You could include salty or sweet snacks or even give your guests a taste of the local flavor. For example, for New York, black and white cookies may be best, while for a beach wedding, saltwater taffy may be more appropriate.
Make sure your guests feel comfortable by pampering them a bit. Include a small bottle of lotion or an eye mask. If your wedding is in a sunny location, make sure the lotion has a decent SPF! You don’t want your guests frying away on your big day. You could even pamper them for the morning after by providing them with a small hangover kit including aspirin and water (I’m sure they will thank you later!).
Finally, thank them for coming! They either flew or drove all the way out there to celebrate with you guys, so a thank you card is definitely in order.
