Snack on the right foods
There are foods out there that actually have the ability to naturally whiten your smile. Bonus: They’re great for your health too! The acid from the fruit oxidize the stains from your teeth. Fill up on strawberries, pineapples, pears, apples and orange peels. The Beauty Bean suggested staying away from lemons because the acids are too strong and may start to wear away at the enamel of the tooth. Other foods that can help you achieve a whiter smile include basil, carrots, ginger and sesame seeds. Really anything with a crunch, like apples or carrots, are going to be abrasive (in a good way) in cleansing teeth.
Grab a straw
If you think about it, when you drink from a cup, the liquid is passing over virtually every part of your teeth. With a straw, you can avoid a lot of the liquid and added stains to keep your teeth looking as good as new.
Don’t forget to floss
Many stains come from what happens in between teeth, so even if you brush, you could be missing areas of discoloration. By flossing, you can remove the buildup that contributes to that nasty discoloration. Oh, and your dentist would be proud!
Be careful with baking soda
While baking soda has a reputation as an excellent teeth whitener, it may be too abrasive on your teeth and may damage the enamel, which can actually make teeth look darker. Instead, try a whitening toothpaste that is going to give you a brighter smile in just a few uses. It may also benefit your pearly whites by using an electric toothbrush. They are specially designed to break up stains that manual toothbrushes can’t seem to get rid of.
Warm colors like brown, yellow and orange will only bring out the discoloration in your teeth. Instead, stick to darker shades that are going to make those teeth look nice and bright, like a fashionable shade of red lipstick.
