What to wear to the rehearsal dinner
What you decide to sport on the night of the rehearsal dinner largely depends on if the night is going to be casual or more on the formal side. If your groom is opting for the traditional suit, make sure he does all the proper preparations ahead of time. He may need to have something dry-cleaned, altered or coordinated. Your groom needs ample time to get everything together rather than pull a move every bride expects: procrastination.
If it’s casual, guys have some more options. The blazer, tie and dress shirt can be dropped and replaced with other attire. Oftentimes, a pair of khakis and a dress shirt is appropriate for this type of event. You could also go for a polo shirt or a nice sweater.
Whatever your groom does decide to wear, make sure that his outfit is coordinated with yours. You don’t want him wearing a tuxedo and you coming in wearing a casual dress. You don’t have to look like twins, just make sure that your clothing choices complement one another.
Wedding day wear
As far as the wedding goes, some of the same rules apply. If you’re having a more formal big day, you could go with the traditional suit or you could mix things up and go with a black on black ensemble. Black pants and a black dress shirt sans blazer with a colorful tie evokes a formal classy effect without the regular suit. Men could also consider straying from the always-popular black blazer. Other colors can make just as big of a statement. Just look at how well Paul Rudd’s character rocked a navy blue blazer in “I Love You Man.”
For a more casual affair, how about having your groom sport a vest-only look? Have his groomsmen pick up the same look to have a feel of coordination. And guess what? Jeans can also work for casual nuptials. Pair them with a nice dress shirt and a vest or blazer and you’ve got one good lookin’ dude. Just make sure he doesn’t choose jeans he used to paint the house with last weekend.
