House party…but classier
If you’re on a budget and would rather not rent out a pricey venue, throw the party in your own backyard! If it’s summer, consider gathering your closest friends and family for a BBQ, drinks and some games – not pin the tail on the donkey (unless you’re into that). Decorate your space with whatever you like, whether you’d like to dress it up or keep it casual. Provide a few classic drink options that guests can help themselves to like margaritas or spiked lemonade. Once it gets dark, fill the trees with some mason jars filled with candles to brighten up your party and create a romantic feel – after all, this is an engagement party.
Think outside the box on this one. Instead of your typical “romance in Paris” party, why not throw a married celebrity party? This hilarious idea from The Knot can make for an unforgettable evening. Have your guests come dressed as their favorite celebrity married couple. Think Ozzie and Sharon Osbourne, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Barack and Michelle Obama or maybe even Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt (if they’re even still married – let’s hope not).
If you’re someone that’s into sports, why not host your party at your favorite team’s game? (We know more than a few of the men at your affair will appreciate this one). Rent out a section of seats or even a skybox for the next big game. Plan to have plenty of appetizers and spirits for those not-so-thrilled about sporting events. Hey, sports aren’t for everyone, but all of your guests should still have something to enjoy at this shindig!
If you’re a morning person, a brunch might be more your style. There are plenty of directions you could go with this one. Make a list of you and your special someone’s favorite breakfast foods and plan to have those at the party. Bridal Guide suggested decorating the space with potted plants and flowers to add plenty of color. You could even leave your guests with parting favors of coffee or tea to keep them going the rest of the day. Oh! And don’t forget the mimosas – they are a celebration brunch must-have.
