Heidi shared some top-notch basic honeymoon planning tips recently, which inspired me to feature a little insight of my own into honeymoons! Your honeymoon should be one of the most fun parts of your wedding to plan, because it’s all about what you and your partner want! You don’t have to put much thought into what your Great Aunt Mildred wants, because she’s not coming with you! If she is coming with you, you may have gotten confused in all the wedding planning – honeymoons are just for the couple, so retract that invitation.

If you’re having a hard time narrowing down a location, I’ve rounded up a few fabulous non-traditional honeymoon destinations for all offbeat couples that you may not have thought to consider.

Many couples opt to jet off to the Bahamas for a bit of island paradise. If you’re looking for a relaxing, fun-in-the-sun beach getaway with a little bit of extra seclusion for your romance to bloom, consider investigating the less-known island getaways. TripAtlas mentioned that while almost everyone has heard of Nassau and Paradise Island, often overlooked islands like Long Island, Eleuthera and Exumas are some of the world’s best kept secrets. The lesser known islands could be an optimal spot for couples looking for secluded beaches.

Another option for couples looking for a beachside locale but who don’t want the typical island getaway is San Sebastian, Spain. La Playa de la Concha is known as one of the best beaches in Europe, and this destination could be perfect for a well-rounded trip. Not only will you have the sandy beaches at your disposal, there are historical sites nearby that pair quite nicely with the local European fine dining!

Turtle Island in Fiji is my final island getaway idea – I found this little gem from TripAtlas, which they say is where you will discover the true meaning of secluded and exclusive paradise. Turtle Island can only accommodate 14 couples at any given time, so this luxurious getaway sounds like a beautiful option for a honeymoon to me!
