Many couples decide to keep much of the formality and tradition of the day for the ceremony, opting to really let the fun begin at the reception. This makes your recessional the perfect occasion to signify the transition from conventions and customs to boisterous and lively celebrating!
The Knot shared some great tips for really impressing your guests, and near the top of the list was incorporating a stunning ceremony exit. After you get through working your way back down the aisle together in style, your guests will be bouncing with anticipation to get to the reception.
The Knot tells us that the ceremony exit is generally one of the most heavily photographed moments of the entire wedding. While rose petals sure are lovely (and birdseed is more environmentally friendly than rice), you can do better than that! The Knot recommends passing out small bags of colorful confetti, fragrant lavender buds, paper airplanes or mini beach balls for all of your guests to toss into the air as you make your exit. I also love the idea of having your guests blow fanciful bubbles into the air! If the ceremony is in the evening, you could also have your guests wave festive sparklers in the air!
Depending on restrictions from your venue selection, you could even hand out noise makers or those nifty confetti poppers. Also consider automobile alternatives for your getaway vehicle. If the weather allows, you and your partner could take off on a quaint and romantic tandem bicycle ride, or make your exit in a rickshaw, on a pair of Vespas, the backseat of a golf cart or even a rowboat (if there is water nearby)! Go crazy with it! It’s your special day, after all!
