Anyway, a lack of fashion know-how like mine can be potentially problematic when it comes to taking engagement photos. I decided to do some research and figure it out! What I found is that there is a wide variety of acceptable attire to use for engagement photo session. Apparently, it has been becoming a big trend to do themes for these shoots, meaning you can dress up, dress down or dress just plain weird.
One wedding blog called Proud To Plan suggests that couples wear something that is comfortable for them, saying that if you both aren’t comfortable, that will actually show up in your pictures. Who wants an awkward engagement photo? Not me! The blog also suggested that ladies not wear tight jeans or clothing that might show curves you don’t want to be seen or restrict your movement and limit the different poses you can do.
It’s also important that you and your partner’s clothing match in its level of dressiness. It won’t look good if the man dons a suit and top hat while the lady throws on flip flops and beach wear! It’s also a good idea not to wear clothes that have a busy print or pattern, so solid colors could be the best option.
Also – and this one is lost on me, but I’m saying it now for all you ladies out there – apparently, your shoes can make a statement so Proud To Plan recommends that you wear a pair that you absolutely love! Many couples even bring a change of clothes for midway through the photo shoot, switching from a glamorous dress outfit to something more casual.
