It may seem like such a small part of your reception, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and you can probably say it with me at this point!): The smallest details can make the biggest impressions! If you were thinking of just printing out a card that has a number on it, while I admire you for your simplicity, try pumping up your numbers a bit. Many couples decide to use numbers that blend seamlessly with their centerpieces and tablescapes, and this is never a bad idea. If you have a beautiful tablescape arrangement of pink and yellow details, you could use glittery gold and pink numbers and call it a day.
However, I say you should have as much fun with this idea as possible! If you are having a vintage-style occasion, use antique lettering or paper for an extra vintage touch. If you have planned a delightful modern occasion with a general floral theme, take a look at this photo that I found on Pinterest. This design uses adorable painted flower pots to hold the table numbers that have been painted on flower-shaped fabric and attached to a twig. This sort of table number display would also be perfect for rustic themes!
Another really fun approach to your table numbers is to have each table use a place that you and your beau have traveled to together. Or, you could use the same idea but with significant moments of your relationship. One table could use elements from your first date, while another could incorporate details from the proposal.
