I’ve always loved watercolor paintings and designs! The Knot recently named watercolor designs as one of the top wedding trends for 2012, noting that a great color palette to add in watercolor touches is one filled with pastels like pink and lilac.
I came across a fabulous real wedding of a particularly artsy couple, Olivia and Vince, on Green Wedding Shoes blog. Their wedding was inspired by famous abstract expressionist painter, Jackson Pollock and featured oodles of watercolors!
One of my favorite elements of their perfect watercolor-inspired wedding was their tablescape. The couple used a DIY hand painted canvas tablecloth with swatches of paint popping out from around the dinner plates and aluminum paint cans holding dainty orange parrot tulips, delicate lilacs, blushing red mini tulips, lush pink peonies, brilliant yellow billy balls and sprigs of green herbs. Every color of the rainbow was represented!
My favorite part of the tablescape, however, was the creativity the couple used with the dinner plates and menu. They used actual paint palettes as appetizer plates and created a menu that was color coded with watercolor swatches. They even hand-painted the utensils! It made for one stunning dinner presentation, that’s for sure!
We have many invitation designs that can work as the perfect watercolor touch to pull the whole wedding together. One of my favorites is our Watercolor Pansies Invitation. I don’t just love this invite because I’ve always had an affinity for pansies; I love the watercolor effect and the bold purple and yellow coloring, which I feel lends an incredibly romantic feel to the invitation and your approaching big day. Another fabulous watercolor floral invite is our Painted Posies Invitation, which comes in canary, cherry, lavender and Malibu color themes.
To follow The Knot’s advice and use pastel colors with watercolor designs, take a look at our Wedding Bliss Invitation. This beautiful invite features a floral border design using pastel pink, purple, warm orange and hints of mint green. Selecting a wedding invitation that features watercolor details is a great way to carry your wedding style and theme through.
