Offbeat Bride blog recently shared a series of tips that I thought deserved a little attention here.
“A costume wedding isn’t all that different than a regular wedding, guest blogger Amberella wrote. “Most weddings are actually costume weddings, unless you wear white formal dresses and tuxedos on a daily basis, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility (and is totally awesome – is your work hiring?)”
Amberella sounds like a character, doesn’t she? Her No. 1 tip for having a successful costume wedding is that you and your partner HAVE to be on the same page with one another. If you are really digging the idea but your partner is not entirely on board, don’t attempt this type of wedding!
Another helpful tip Amberella shared is to choose a flexible theme. If you are total Star Wars fans, you can be sure that all your guests will have plenty of characters to choose from; however, not all of them will be as big of fans as you are. If you select broader themes like the 1920s or the old west, almost everyone will be able to relate.
It’s also a good idea to prepare yourself for a variety of different levels of participation. Some of your guests will be psyched but others may be a bit reluctant to let themselves get a little wacky. You might need to help these guests out a bit more with figuring out how they should dress.
A final tip that you shouldn’t forget is to make sure that you go out of your way to compliment all of your guests who participate in the costume theme. They dressed up for your big day to show you they care, so give ’em a little pat on the back to thank them for being so cool!
