I’ll give you a moment to dry your tears, but please keep reading. It’s really a cute story that I think you’ll enjoy.
Nicole knocked my socks off from the first day I met her. But you know how it goes, everyone “puts on a show” out of the gate, right? So, I thought, let’s play this out and see what happens.
Well, from the beginning I knew that I was a lucky man, and as we grew together, I continued to be impressed and wowed by how wonderful the special lady in my life is!
She had regularly made it very clear to me that she was interested in marriage and that she felt I was her perfect match. My typical response was “Yes, honey, I agree we are great together. And someday we will get married …” My hesitation wasn’t because I was trying to avoid the topic. It was all part of my master plan to throw her off the trail, so that when I did propose to her, she wouldn’t have had a clue it was coming!
So I put my plan into action. I brainstormed numerous ideas on how to approach this: What was the best way to surprise her? What was the most romantic way to do it? I even practiced a little bit of arts and crafts in preparation! And soon enough, the plan was perfect. The next step is actually doing it, right? Thankfully, I didn’t second guess the idea or get nervous at all, which I took as a good sign that this was the right thing to do!
I told Nicole that I wanted to take her on a “cute date weekend” to look at the fall colors. It was a perfect day for the trip: great weather, scenic views and a quaint atmosphere in the lovely town we stopped in. We did a little bit of shopping, stopped at an apple orchard, had a wonderful lunch and took a trolley ride tour to learn the history of the town. From there, we stopped up at the park where I planned to make the biggest and most important move of my life: proposing to Nicole!
It was the middle of the afternoon, and since our dinner reservations were for later that evening, I had packed us a picnic snack. Well, that’s what I told her at least … I walked her to the picnic bench, sat her down and put my plan into action.
I started by pulling out a super cute invitation that I had personalized from this Invitations by Dawn design. Nicole had seen this invite some time ago and thought it was lovely. So I decided to use this in my proposal because it had history and meaning for us.
The next gift for her that I pulled out of the basket was a single red rose. What cute date weekend is complete without the classic and romantic single red rose?
For the next part of the plan, a guy has to be dressed just right if he’s going to propose to his special lady, right? So out comes my fancy suit coat and fedora. Nicole likes this hat, and once told me that I should wear it if I was ever going to propose to her. I could practically see the thoughts going through her head when I put the hat on. “Wait, he’s doing something funny, he has the hat … but no, he’s told me so many times it won’t happen for a while, … he wouldn’t, right?”
Now for the arts and crafts I alluded to earlier! I had put a considerable amount of effort into making this snow globe to give Nicole that had this big glass heart on the inside that is etched with the words: “Nicole, will you marry me?” Before I gave Nicole the snow globe, I gave it a quick shake, sending the snow swirling around inside it. And as Nicole was looking at it and trying to see through the snow to read the message, I ever-so-smoothly got down on one knee and asked her the biggest question I’ve ever asked anyone! The response was a very clear “YES!” and came without hesitation! Phew!
So maybe I should have done this before I bored you with the story, but you can just watch the proposal. Yep, that’s right – I got everything on camera! I actually had a few camera guys hiding in the bushes! I’m a nerd like that … but I just knew that this was a moment we would both want to look back on.
And my night of surprise plans wasn’t over just yet … Our dinner plans were on a riverboat dinner cruise, with our parents waiting on board to celebrate with us! After that, I surprised her with an amazing, romantic room waiting for us at a historic inn, complete with rose petals and candles!
So anyway, that’s the story of how I swept Nicole off of her feet and the start of our adventure into a new chapter of life together. Again, sorry to disappoint all of you ladies, but I appreciate you taking a moment to hear our story!
