Signature cocktails for budget-conscious couples

By April,

November 19, 2012
If you’re thinking that you can’t feature a snazzy signature cocktail at your reception simply because it is out of budget, you couldn’t be more wrong! Actually, I came across this fabulous article today from Brides magazine which revealed that serving one or two signature cocktails at your wedding is actually a great cost-saver. Specialty cocktails can not only be a fabulous way to add a little extra personality to your reception, but they allow you to offer your guests the perks of free drinks without costing you big bucks on stocking a full bar. (Trust me, that’s the real money-sucker in this scenario!)

Brides shared one cocktail recipe in particular that just sounds so delicious, I couldn’t resist sharing it with you! So, what’s this little baby called?

The magnificently mellow melon ginger float
Yep, that’s what Brides magazine called it. And with a name like that, I couldn’t imagine it wouldn’t taste as equally delicious as it sounded! So, I decided to give this cocktail a trial run of my own.

To whip up one of these refreshing beauties, you will need 2 ounces of vodka (your choice), 1 ounce of ginger beer, 1 ounce of fresh orange juice and 2 ounces of cantaloupe sorbet. It’s kind of like a fresh and hip rendition of a screwdriver, and it’s so universally appealing that I’d bet all your guests will love it! It’s sweet, but not too sweet, which I have always found to be a rare quality of cocktails.

So, just grab up all those ingredients in a shaker, throw in a handful of ice and get to shakin’! After a minute or so of working out those arms, strain out the contents into a frosty glass. To take your presentation to the next level, you can top it off with a sprig of crystallized mint and maybe even a couple cantaloupe melon balls to bob about.

This cocktail creation is sure to create a buzz on your big day, because, really, who doesn’t like fruit, vodka and beer? It’s a winning combination if I’ve ever heard one!
