One of the strangest weddings that I have come across in my quest for all things weird has couples zipping up the scuba suits, popping on an oxygen tank and taking to the underwater world. Do you know that couples have actually jumped in a shark-diving cage and said their vows as the beasts swam in circles around them?
I actually kind of like the trend that has been happening lately where couples are choosing common and ordinary locations for their ceremony venue. I found an article in Travel and Leisure magazine that detailed a couple who chose to say “I do” in a local TJ Maxx store, another couple in a 99 Cents Only store in L.A. and yet another opting to get wed in a local Taco Bell. The Taco Bell nuptials took place in Normal, Illinois, and the couple explained their fast-food wedding “as the appropriately offbeat culmination of ‘an offbeat relationship’.” Hey, I know I am happy when I am munching on a taco and some cinnamon twists!
Here are some more of the world’s strangest:
A roller coaster
I suppose the symbolism behind this is that the couple is preparing themselves for the ups and downs of married life. (I admit, it’s kind of romantic … in its own amusement park kind of way.)
One of the weird nuptials mentioned in Travel and Leisure magazine is a company by the name of Marriage in the Sky, which lets couples pick a spot essentially anywhere in the world to be hoisted and suspended in the air on platforms. The cool thing about this? There’s enough room to invite 20 guests and a pianist, so you can have a formal ceremony 164 feet in the air! (Where can I sign up?)
An ice chapel
Seriously, there’s a chapel at the Hotel de Glace in Quebec that’s entirely made of ice. Might be a little too cold for me, but supposedly, the hotel had fur capes and gowns with fuzzy lining made specially for brides who say “I do” in this chapel of ice!
