For your information, wedding toasting is actually a tradition that can be traced back to ancient Greece. You know how in all the old Greek literature, they’re always drinking wine and having big shindigs? I mean, you’ve all probably read Homer’s “The Odyssey,” right? Do you remember how many parties and drunk guys are in that epic? It’s like on every other page!
Well, thank the plastered ancient Greeks for this tradition. According to my research, they would toast anytime there was a gathering or celebration, and over time, their gesture of raising their glasses caught on in surrounding cultures and was passed on to later generations. Today, it is essentially a global tradition, with many people putting some serious stock in it!
Most weddings will incorporate a toasting portion and April is right that modern couples are really revamping this tradition and taking original approaches to their wedding day cheers. It’s still the norm to have toasting flutes as your drinking glasses for the toasts. The recent trend with toasting flutes, however, is that now there are a jillion varieties of flutes and so many unique ways to personalize them. Our technology-crazed generation has made it so that we are always finding better, and more personalized ways to drink and celebrate! I don’t know about you, but I’ll cheers to that!
