Call me corny, call me a romantic if you’d like but here’s the story. I decided that I would get a tiny outline of a heart on my hip. It’s only about an inch and a half and all in black ink, and it was conveniently placed in a spot that would allow me to easily hide it from my parents!
The reason I chose to get an outline of a heart for that first tat was that it represented love: love of myself, love of others and love to come. My plan was that when I eventually got married down the line (check!), I would head off to my tattoo artist and have my heart outline filled in solid. I planned it all out! This action would represent that I had found my other half and was finally complete.
I have to admit that part of my choosing to place it on my hip was that I didn’t want to admit to myself that I believed in this romantic ideal. But I was young! I was afraid of indulging in the idea of romance. While I still have some remnants of my edgy past self in tact, my admittance to love is secure: I’m a romantic, and I’m no longer afraid to admit it. Love is beautiful and life-changing, and for your big day, embrace it! Hearts will always serve as a symbol of love for me (and a good chunk of the rest of the world!).
For your wedding, don’t hide your love under a conveniently placed t-shirt like I did, and instead, let your heart shine! Using heart details for your wedding invitations, donning heart-shaped jewelry or even peppering your whole day with heart details can all be excellent accents to display your love proudly on your wedding day.
