Maybe the classic church or backyard wedding isn’t for you. If you’ve been looking into destination weddings and can’t get the thought of taking your vows along a nice stretch of white sand out of your head, not to fret – beach weddings can be a cinch with the right tools and resources on your side. Here’s a brief checklist of the essentials:
The further you are away from home, the more important it becomes to plan for your I do’s! Start the planning stages as early as possible to allow enough time to research, select and secure your venue choice as well as fulfill marriage and permit requirements for the state (or country) in which you will be having your wedding.
Befriend a local
Having an inside scoop can be a key asset to any destination wedding. While I’m sure there are plenty of websites created on your destination, there’s only so much pictures can really tell you about a spot. A local ally can provide a world of help when planning. It might even be worth it to hire a local wedding planner – as someone who’s planned several weddings in the area, there’s likely no one better to turn to.
Send Save the Dates
Destination weddings often involve jumbo jets, so don’t catch your family and friends off-guard. Give them as much time as possible to plan their travel arrangements before your big day! Use beach themed Save the Dates to get them in the mood for sunny weather. As a rule, it’s best to send these out nine months or more before the wedding.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
Even with your local connections, there are likely still going to be a few slip ups when you’re not there to hand-pick all of your arrangements. Got yellow callas lilies instead of pink? Kick off your heels and let it go! (did I just say that?!)
