Actually, we kind of suspected it could. So we set out to challenge three of our staffers with this: take that little pearl shimmer favor box and take a day to dress it up. Add to it. Create a look for it. Pretend it’s for YOUR wedding and get as DIY as you want. And then come back and show us what you did. Wow us.
Wow us, indeed! Just look what these three came up with:
Challenger: April Hallett, Product Development
Favor Theme: “Stripes are cool”
Inspiration: the Hip Heart invitation and seal
April says: Three things that inspire me daily are art and design blogs, fashion and furniture. I don’t like the word “crafty” – it reminds me of the many crafts my mom did when I was a child. I prefer the word artsy, and yes, I am very artsy…artsy is cool. This favor would be used at a wedding where the bride wanted to express her more colorful side by pairing colorful ribbons, stripes and hearts along with her and her mister’s initials to make it personal.
Challenger: Sarah Jackson, Marketing
Favor Theme: “Ooh la la”
Inspiration: Pinterest, her husband’s French heritage
Sarah says: I’m probably the least crafty person you’ve ever met, but when I get an idea, I run with it. It’s my cross to bear. If something doesn’t work I tear it down over and over until I get something exactly how I want it or until I figure out that it can’t be done. I’m an ice cream loving, movie quoting, karaoke singing, dog adopting fanatic who recently got married. Ever since then I’ve been completely obsessed with weddings, and all the detail that goes into making that day the way you want to remember it. I love finding beauty in ordinary things, so when I got this challenge, where did I go? PINTREST! I did some snooping and found an idea to do a navy and pink favor. But after trying to make two ribbons cooperate into a bow and being 100% unsuccessful, I scrapped that idea and went back to the drawing board. This time I played off my husband’s French background. I love the French language, culture and style of the country. I took that and combined it with a rustic/vintage (love vintage things) frame that surrounded my favorite word in the whole world, “Merci.” (Thanks or Thank You).
Challenger: Heidi Smith, Marketing
Favor Theme: “Rustic Vintage”
Inspiration: blogs, Pinterest, her fabric stash
Heidi says: I like to consider myself to be pretty creative. I like to find inspiration on blogs and Pinterest. I could stay up all night pinning away. My style is pretty low-key though – I like things simple and clean. I love the details that go into planning an event like a wedding. I think that day should reflect who you are as a couple. Your personal style should be reflected in each piece of your day. I love sewing and love the rustic/vintage weddings that are all the rage right now. So, I dove into my fabric stash and found this vintage-looking print and decided to use it like a ribbon. I love the splash of color and the frayed edges. I think I would fill my favor box with fresh herbs.
Now, we’re challenging YOU. If you had a little favor box in front of you, how would you dress it up to match your day? Tell us! Leave us a comment here, or let us know on Facebook. Even better, do it and share the photo!
More favor challenges coming your way on Thursday – stay tuned!
